We have heard horrific news about young people in Chicago as of late. Derrion Albert, an honors student who was gunned down, has become the “face” of the violence. If I may, I would like to present another representation of the story. Derrius Quarles represents the strength, hope and determination of young Chicago.
Derrius could have been a statistic. His father was killed when he was 4 years old. His mother was a drug addict. Instead of getting caught up in the life that destroyed his parents, Derrius moved to break the cycle.
He graduated high school with a 4.2 GPA and more than $1 million in scholarships ($1,150,000, to be precise) with acceptance into dozens of colleges. He stood up to the image he saw plaguing his city and said, “I can be all the things I was told I could never be.” He now attends Morehouse College and hopes to pursue a career in medicine. Ultimately, he has his sights set on being the Surgeon General, so that he can shape the public health policy.

I feel so amazing and very interesting happen because, everybody think he is not good of anything. First, I read his fanily story and I think so, too.But, now is different. I want he trait and I think have to study hard. He is very good of anything.I have to imitate he! And, so thank you to he and this news.

I am very impressed by Derrius. His perseverance and determination are qualities epitomizing the very essence of what it means to be a hard worker. Many can learn from his achievements.
I think Derrius did a very good job. His families are in bad situation but he fought about it and he made a good result. I think his effort is very good and I think have a hope can make good result. So I will have a hope and I will try hard all of the work.

I am very interesting to this news. It is because Derrius’s father is dead and his mom is drug addict. So other people that surrounding to Derrius said Derrius will is not good at anything. But Derrius broke prejudice and he studied very hard and get scholarship. He did not worry about scholarship so he studied harder and he get a very high GPA. I think prejudice is not good. I think person’s ability is important to test people.

But my story’s main character was different. That character’s parents are divorced. So, the character make a problem everyday. I think, that character wanted to revenge to everybody. But it isn’t honest.
I think, become respectableperson is better than revenge. Like a Derrius Quarles.

After reading the article I sat and wondered where is the key turning point for youth with so many obstacles to overcome. His mother is drug addict, and his father died why can;t all yout overcome these obstacles. Now, many of you will say he had many positive factors but some teens reject the positive events in their life and turn to lives of drug addiction, become runaways and end up in our legal system. I saw this for years an emplyee at a juvenile boot camp. What is the key age t send kids on a positive road? How come even when help is extended some dont succeed? Is it the home, the neighborhhod, peers lack of a quality education system? I am so impressed with this young man…….kudos!

I want to be like him I’m very impressed to him, because he has his sights set on being the Surgeon General, so that he can shape the public health policy. It’s rare to see a young african american man, from Chicago, succeed. I hope that once he settles into the career of his selection and looks back on the generations of people who have not made it as far as him, he feels a great since of heroism. it takes alot of courage to step up and make the decision to change things for yourself, especial when coming from the situation he did. It’d be nice to see him speaking at some of the schools he went to and to give some inspiration to other young men. To show them that hard work really does pay off, you just have to want it bad enough.
